Literature Text

I woke up the next morning and find Alex with a sheet in his hand, he almost has a confused or terrified look to his face "Alex! I thought you were going to college today." I asked him in a concerned voice. He only faces me and hands me the paper. Instantly, my face goes white. "What is this all about?" I say sternly. As I read the paper it said, "From today, all males from the ages 19-40 will be drafted due to lack of military personnel. All men will be expected to show up at their doors by the beginning of the following week to be picked up by the buses. Bring only needed personal belongings to the bus."  I was shocked, "What will we do? I don't want to lose you!" I was screaming at that point. "I don't know, I don't think there is a way out of this at all." Alex was shaking and couldn't stop. I wouldn't stop looking in his eyes.

All we were doing was just looking at each other for about a minute before Martha came downstairs "Guys do you mind keeping quiet?" And then, She saw the paper. And became as horrified as I was. "Why is it now? They could just come up with another idea!" Martha had tears streaming down from her eyes. Why was the only thing I could think about. I had to think how to get him to stay with me, but the next thing I said was probably the most stupidest thing I heard myself say.

"I'll go with you!" "NO!" Alex yells at me. "Don't go too!" Martha begs me. "No one is going to change my mind, I don't want to lose anyone else I love." "No way Millie, I would never want to watch you die." Alex weakly whispers "I wont die to any foe that comes my way." He stood up. "Fine, If nothing is going to change your mind, then you can, but the moment an injury comes, your going home." "You shouldn't worry about that, as I said, I won't."

I make my way to my room but Martha stops me. "Millie, that was a very foolish idea, you could die out there! I couldn't think of what I would do without you!" I tried to comfort her. "It'll all be okay, besides, I have more reasons to join the military other than to be with Alex." she starts to question me. "What do you mean by more reasons?" "Like all of us, we want the aliens gone. Also, this has to do with the search of my mom. My family has a long military history so did my mother.  So if she is anywhere, she might as well be in a base other than here." Martha thought for a while, and finally responded "Okay, but swear to me, be careful out there for me, please?" I put my head on her shoulder, "I will, I'll come back, Don't worry about it." All she does is gives me a smile and I make my way to the bedroom.

                                                                                         ****

A week later, as the paper said, the bus had shown up to pick up the recruits. I give Martha a one last hug before I waved her goodbye. I couldn't help myself but let my self cry on the way to the bus, Because I knew this may be the last time I see her or Alex even. But I knew I couldn't do any of that if I was going to make it in a life of a marine. When I got in the bus, the driver gives me a surprised look on on his face. I hand him my application form and he says to me, "You know, we don't get a lot of women wanting to be a marine." And he continues on, "You either are crazy, or the bravest woman I've seen." I didn't know what to say so I said "Thank you?" And carried on, and what he said wasn't exaggerated at all. In fact, I was the only girl in the whole bus, and everybody had an eye on me. All I could do was hide myself behind Alex.

The ride lasted about 3 hours, I was just thinking random things so I wouldn't worry about the troubles of what I was about to do. When we got to the base, We were transferred to another area of the city dome where we got on a separate ship to be, for the first time, in over a decade, go to the surface. Surprisingly, not much changed according to my memory. Yet I thought how such a beautiful world could be now controlled by such ugly force. The ship got us to an underground fortress. when we were entered in, I was shocked. It looked like the bustling city back at home, It was huge. After we got off the hanger, a man guided us to our sleeping quarters, and gave us a tour of the entirety of the compound. Afterwards, we went to the mess hall for dinner. I didn't know anyone so I sat next to Alex which was sitting next to, *Gasp!* "Richard!" They both look towards me. Richard's eyes widen, "Millie! What do you think you are doing here? were you drafted too?" "No, I chose to be here. I have some stuff to explain to both of you guys."

I told them about my family's military history and the way of finding my mother. "So you aren't the dumbest or craziest person I met." Alex says. "That's a pretty clever idea. But still, that's not a good excuse for doing something so dangerous, we had to because we have no choice." Richard replies. "No, no Rich' you don't know Millie, if she has an idea to find her mother, there's nothing you can do about it." Alex jokes. "Well then, I better not see a death certificate that says 'killed by aliens' for you." Richard mocks. "Good because you won't get any of that from me." I retort. After dinner, we got sent to our beds as the speaker says, "Training starts tomorrow! prepare for a world of pain!" Ha ha, I thought, a world of pain, what can anyone do to me?

"WAKE UP WEAKLINGS!!!" My instructor Yells across the huge room yet he's still so loud. whoop de do, I thought, Welcome to your life. You got yourself into this mess, now your going to finish cleaning it up.

Millie's life takes a new turn in this chapter.

I got to ask will you be doing a short arc about their training or will you go for a time skip about a year or so? For me I would really like to see a short arc about how they all go through hell to become good marine. this will also give you time to set up a plan for what comes after. Not to mention it will from my point of view it will help show who these characters not by their personalities but by their actions. Then there is also the idea that later on you can show flash backs to some things in there training that will help them out in the future. still this is looking good to me, but I hope you show all the emotion you can with these characters. not to make them look like crybabies but to show their more human nature. to give them greater purpose later on in the story. well keep up the great work.
